To mark the 36st anniversary of the beginning of the Chernobyl NPP disaster relief today, on May 25, general Intars Zitāns, Deputy Chief of the State Fire and Rescue Service, presented the Chernobyl NPP emergency relief memorial sign to 75 participants of the Chernobyl NPP disaster, incl. 8 relatives of the deceased participants at the Chernobyl NPP.
The participant of the liquidation of the consequences of the accident, the former President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, was awarded the Golden Star of the Hero of Ukraine, the Head of the Personnel Management Division of the MoD was presented with the Honorary Mark of the Latvian Union "Chernobyl".
Valdis Zatlers, the President of the Latvian Union "Chernobyl" Arnolds Vērzemnieks and the Vice-President, chairman of the Honourary Mark Council Māris Šops addressed the audience.
The participants of the event got acquainted with the museum's thematic exhibition dedicated to the liquidation of the accident, and the students of the music school gave a small warm concert.
We thank more than 6,000 Latvian nationals for their contribution to controlling the spread of the consequences of the CHAE accident, we wish them strong health, for many years!
