Honouring the first General after the restoration of Latvia's independence, former Chief of the State Fire and Rescue Service Juris Ļabis on his 80th Birthday, the former Chiefs of the Lithuanian Fire and Rescue Department, retired Colonel Kraujalis and retired General Remigijus Baniulis, on 23 July presented Juris Ļabis with the Cross of the First Degree "To the Closest of Helpers" of the Fire Service of the Republic of Lithuania.
On behalf of the Latvian firefighters, retired General Yuri Kislyak congratulated the jubilee.
